Saturday, February 17 / 12-2:30 pm, edson hall at St. anne’s Episcopal church

One of the highlights of WinterFest, the annual Soup Bowl Competition showcases delicious soups and chowders prepared by local restaurants.  The competition takes place on Saturday, February 17th, 2024 from 12pm to 2:30pm - Tickets are $5 at the door

Location: Edson Hall at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church - 8 Kirk Street Lowell, MA 01852

The 2024 Richard Rourke Memorial Soup Bowl Competition is brought to you by Market Basket.

Participants:

  • Purple Carrot Bread Co - Chicken, Sage & Sweet Potato Chowder served with a slice of Purple Carrot bread (Contains wheat and possibly dairy)

  • YouthBuild Culinary at Community Teamwork - Southeast Asian Chicken Soup (with herbs and traditional garnishes)

  • Boys & Girls Club of Greater Lowell - Corn Chowder made with Coconut Milk

  • Panela Restaurant - Cream of corn and sweet plantain soup, with potatoes and chicken. Vegetarian version available. (Contains dairy)

  • Simply Khmer - Kuy-Tiev (Noodle Soup)

  • Cobblestones - Roasted Porkbelly & Ramen Noodle Soup: tomato & scallion ginger soy

  • Charr’d Grille at the Worthen House Cafe - Tuscan Sausage Potato and Kale (Contains milk)

  • The Chowder Factory/Jolly Lobster - Butternut Squash and Crab Soup (Contains shellfish, wheat, milk)

MEET THE JUDGES

Chef Kelcy

Chef Kelcy is a Lowell-based Chef and Educator with a focus on eating with the seasons and supporting her local community through private cooking classes and dinner parties. She is also the Farm Chef at Wright-Locke Farm in Winchester, MA, where she runs a variety of educational programming for people of all ages and creates delicious farm-to-table food experiences..

 

Gerald Schiavoni

Cofounder of Merrimack Valley Eats, an internet forum dedicated to finding the best restaurants in the Merrimack Valley. Whether dining at a high-end steakhouse, local pizza joint, small-town bakery, dive bar, cozy café, or a mom-and-pop market. We've created a community that gives valuable insight to area restaurants and employs a "Help Not Yelp" mentality. We use helpful conversation and thoughtful dialogue paired with kindness and empathy to strengthen community connections. You can find me, personally, dining all over the valley with a camera, lighting, and passion for storytelling through food.

Timna Nwokeji

Timna is the Founder & CEO of Life as a Maven, LLC., a Latina owned, digital content creation business focused on small businesses. Life as a Maven, LLC started as a way to share local food and travel experiences with locals and it grew into so much more! Between her travels to different parts of the world and her growing following in the Greater Merrimack Valley & Boston, Timna continues to share curated experiences with her followers. Two years ago Timna officially made Life as a Maven into an LLC and in less than two years grew her business into a five figure business. Her focus has stayed consistent, to help small businesses with their own content creation while creating beautiful and engaging content for her own followers to see. She also hopes to inspire others to experience different food, learn about different cultures and travel in a different way.

Timna holds a Master degree from Northeastern University, (first in her family) an HR professional in her corporate life, wife and mom to a beautiful baby boy.

 

Brian Ruhlman

Brian makes spicy soups (hot sauce) for a living. Brian, the founder and cook at Lowell-based hot sauce company Craic Sauce, appreciates all soups from thin, to thick and bold and eccentric. May the best soup win!

Mona Tyree

Mona Tyree is a long-time resident of the city of Lowell and a passionate Community Advocate and Activist. Her goal is to create a ripple of positivity and inspiration within her community. She volunteers in a variety of positions within the City of Lowell.
